The Government Health Scheme offers healthcare facilities to employees and pensioners of the Government of India who are registered under the scheme. The scheme offers reimbursement and cashless facilities to enrolled members.The Government Health Scheme (CHGS) provides healthcare to the employees and pensioners of the Government that are enrolled under this scheme. The beneficiary base spreads across 71 cities and covers more than 35 lakh beneficiaries.
These are the facilities that can be availed under CGHS:
Indoor treatments. Diagnostic tests. Specialist Consultation Medical consultation and dispensing of medicines Cashless facility is available for treatments Reimbursement of expenses for emergency treatments
The Scheme aims to provide allopathic Medicare to Ex-servicemen pensioner and their dependents through a network of ECHS Polyclinics, Service medical facilities, Government hospitals, empanelled private hospitals/specified Govt. Hospitals spread across the country. The Scheme has been structured on the lines of CGHS to ensure cashless transactions, for the patients and is financed by the Government of India. There are 427 Polyclinics in 28 Regional Centres sanctioned by the Government, ECHS Polyclinics are designed to provide ‘Out Patient Care’ which includes consultation, essential investigation and provision of medicines. Specialized consultations, investigations and ‘In Patient Care’ (Hospitalization) is provided through spare capacity available in Rajarajeswari Hospitals with ECHS.

Health Insurance Policies Provide benefits for hospitalization for illness, disease or Accident.As per Insurance Policy, 24 hours inpatient stay is mandatory, except for specified day care procedures. (Please refer your Policy conditions or contact the Corporate HR for Policy terms and conditions) Preliminary Investigations are generally not covered under Insurance.The Insurance Companies do not pay for Non-medical expenses like Toiletries, Cosmetic items, buds, masks, Housekeeping charges, Admission Charges, attendant/Registration charges, Medical Certificate, MLC charges, Attender Room charges etc. (For a detailed list, refer to Insurer guidelines/Copy with Insurance Helpdesk).
In case the patient stays in a room beyond his/her entitled limit the Insurer/TPA may also deduct a proportionate amount from the Total Bill amount and NOT JUST THE ROOM RENT DIFFERENCE. The Patient will be expected to bear this amount.The TPAs/ Insurance companies may deny Cashless based on certain exclusions like pre-existing ailments, policy exclusions, under the influence of alcohol, AIDS/ HIV related treatments, Sum Insured Exhausted, psychiatric treatments etc.
